ScriverAI

Writing, narrative design and working with AI.

I created ScriverAI after questioning something that matters deeply to me: being a person who writes.

For me, the arrival of AI opened Pandora’s box. At first, it seemed to have kept hope inside; then, with time, much reflection and plenty of doubt, that fell out too.

Meanwhile, in the discussions I followed, I saw purists and absolute advocates defending their positions and accusing one another; some seemed intent on branding anyone who used AI or was learning to use it with a scarlet letter, drawing a sharp line between humanity and machines. In general, I don’t like absolutism, and I didn’t want to make anyone feel guilty, while remaining aware that this tool, too, requires control, judgement and attention. I felt the need to return to the questions: what does it mean to write? What does it mean to tell a story? What changes when a technology enters the way we do it?

I went back to the history of writing and its evolution, to how tools have transformed the work and possibilities of those who write. From there, I returned to the distinction between writing and storytelling, between formulating a sentence and building an experience for the reader.

ScriverAI grew out of this research, and its name carries a future: scriverai, scriveremo, you will write, we will write. A future I would like us to learn to explore, even when it challenges us.

I would like to offer a space to question absolutism and understand how AI can become part of the writing process. I also speak to those who, as I did, have felt their faith in what they do falter, thinking that “writing is dead”.

This reflection also concerns talent and the way we recognise ourselves in our work. I am interested in seeing a person as a system of experiences, knowledge, sensibilities and skills that interact. Something may strike me and go unnoticed by someone else; from that detail, I can recognise a possibility, suggest a connection and begin to build. This is what I mean by being the spark that sets your own skills in motion.

01 / The course

How I structured the course

In the first part, I trace the history of writing through three stages, remembering, passing on and communicating, and the technologies that have transformed its tools and possibilities. The course takes in the jester, fairy tales, the relationship with the recipient and words as perceptual invitations, bringing together history, contemporary examples and the foundations of narrative design to arrive at working with AI. Through analysis and discussion of texts, images, cinema and video games, we observe how narrative choices direct attention, build expectations and produce meaning.

The workshop

In the second part, we practise and try to understand how AI can speed up some processes, especially at work, where writing also means meeting deadlines, responding to requests and taking responsibility for what we deliver. We work on setting up skills and projects, assessing which tools and ways of using them help us and which, instead, add unnecessary steps or fail to meet our needs.

I bring my own method, serendipity with method, as a starting point for experimenting and building your own way of working with AI.

The workshop takes place in person at SP-Formazione.

02 / Who it’s for

Who it’s for

ScriverAI is for people who work or want to work in writing, marketing and communication, and for those who want to explore storytelling, understand its foundations and experiment with building a message, choosing a point of view and shaping the reader’s experience.

No previous experience with AI is required: we will work together to try to understand how it can support our work.

03 / Interested?

Could ScriverAI be for you?

It may interest you if you want to better understand how storytelling works in communication and marketing, why one piece of content strikes us while another leaves us indifferent, or why a well-written text can have little to say.

It may interest you if you want to learn to work with AI, understand what to ask it, assess what it proposes and integrate it into your process, building a method that helps you write with greater awareness and speed up some stages of the work.

Empty content existed before; it simply took longer to produce. With ScriverAI, I would like to work on the ability to recognise it and create content that enriches the web, with care and responsibility towards the reader and the consumer.
